Tips on how to save money in Budapest
- Choose restaurants and cafes in non-touristy locations. Next to the promoted Vaci street there is Ráday street. There are many inexpensive restaurants where locals go.
- Every day from 11:30 to 14:00, the Napi menü or Mai menü signs are posted in cafes and restaurants. Cheap 2-course lunch sets cost 1200-1500 HUF (3.58-4.48 €) for two. If you do not understand what is written on the menu, ask the waiter.
- Large portions in Hungary. Don't rush to order a lot. As a rule, one dish is enough for two. The meat goulash is so satisfying that it replaces a whole meal.
- The most popular places for tasty and inexpensive food in Budapest are Chinese restaurants, or in Hungarian kínai büfé. For 600 HUF (1.79 €) you can grab a plate of noodles or rice with chicken. One portion is enough for an adult to eat.
- You can save money by sometimes snacking on the go. A slice of pizza at a street bakery costs 300 HUF (0.9 €), and a bun in a supermarket costs 100 HUF (0.3 €).
- There are many Kurtoskalacs in Budapest selling delicious Hungarian pastries kyurtskalach... Enjoy a national dessert for 350 HUF (1 €).
