The city is located in the South-West of the country, on both banks of the Don River. In 1749, by decree of the Russian Empress Elizabeth, the Temernitsa customs house was founded on this place. Awarded the title "City of Military Glory", Rostov-on-Don has a very rich and interesting history.

"Tachanka Rostovchanka"
A sculpture dedicated to the famous First Cavalry Army is installed on the banks of the Don River. At this place, during a bloody battle, Rostov was liberated from the White Guards. It represents a cart depicted in motion with a charioteer and four horses harnessed to it. A machine gun is installed in the back of the cart, which two Red Guards are ready to fire at any moment.
"Liberators of Rostov"
The monument is dedicated to the heroes of the Great Patriotic War. It is a tall stele topped with a hundred-ton structure in the shape of a ship's bow. On one side there is a sculpture of the ancient goddess of victory, and on the other - a gilded order. At the base of the stele there is a stone relief depicting Soviet soldiers, as well as a stone bell tower, a bowl of water and an eternal flame. The 72-meter-high structure is given a special look by lighting that works in the dark.
Monument to the strike of 1902
A monument to the fallen workers was erected above the road, at the entrance to the Zheleznodorozhny district of the city. It is a memorial complex in two parts. The upper part is a sculpture depicting two powerful figures of the protesters. One of them rests on an anvil. The second, standing in full growth, holds the revolutionary banner in his hand. The lower part - volumetric figures "1902" and a stone with a relief image of workers fighting for their rights.
"City of Military Glory"
The memorial adorns the square of the same name in the Pervomaisky district of the city, opposite the airport building. A granite stele rises in the center of the rectangular pedestal. Its height is 6.5 meters. At the top is a voluminous bronze coat of arms of Russia. At the base there is a plaque with a presidential decree on awarding the title to the city, as well as the coat of arms of Rostov-on-Don.
"Kumzhenskaya Grove"
A memorial in memory of those killed during the liberation of the city from the Nazi invaders was built in 1983, on the Don coast in the Zheleznodorozhny district. The central object of the complex is the monumental composition "Assault", mounted on a granite pedestal - the figures of soldiers going into battle. The memorial also includes four steles of Glory and a mass grave. The names of the soldiers buried here are engraved on granite tablets.
"Children of War"
A touching monument is erected in the church park, at the intersection of Stachki Avenue with International Street. The pedestal depicts two children sitting on the ruins of a building. A girl with a toy bear in her arms, and a boy surrounded by pigeons. A small fire is lit next to them and there is a pot of food. The creators of the monument managed to convey as much as possible all the severity and pain that children had to endure during the war years.
Monument to A.S. Pushkin
The monument to the great poet adorns a small square in the central part of the city, at the intersection of Voroshilovsky Prospekt with Pushkinskaya Street. The bronze statue was erected on a high granite pedestal. In the early 90s, the monument was added to the list of objects of state protection. Every year, on A. Pushkin's birthday, here you can see fresh flowers laid by residents and guests of the city.
"To the Cossacks who did not return who defended the Motherland"
The opening of the monument was celebrated in September 2016. The monument depicts the moment when the horse of the deceased Cossack returned to his family. The sculptural composition consists of a horse with a weapon and a mantle attached to the saddle, as well as a woman standing next to it and a boy holding on to the hem. The monument to the Cossacks who did not return takes the place of the Rostov "evening bazaar".
Monument to Dmitry Rostovsky
The monument to the patron saint of Rostov-on-Don is located in the center of the city, on the square in front of the Cathedral. The figure of the saint in a festive robe is set on a granite pedestal, with his back to the entrance to the temple. According to the author's idea, the Metropolitan, leaving the church, lights the city with the Banner of the Cross. On the pedestal itself there is a plate with a gold inscription: "St. Dmitry Metropolitan of Rostov".
"Mother and Child"
Not far from the park named after May 1, on Teatralnaya Square in 1979, a monument was erected praising maternal love. He depicts a barefoot woman in a long dress sitting on a high pedestal. This monument was created for installation in Volgograd, but the city administration did not give approval for this. The sculptor had no choice but to donate a monument to Rostov-on-Don. Monument to the water supply
It is known that the first water supply system in the city was opened in 1865. In those years, the responsibility for providing households with drinking water lay on women's shoulders. Therefore, the sculpture depicted a woman taking water from a column into a bucket. The statue is cast in bronze and installed on the territory of Pokrovsky Square, at the site of the opening of the first aqueduct. Its height is slightly more than 2 meters.
Monument to A. Khanzhonkov
The memorial to the famous cinematographer found its place in the square in front of the gymnasium, on Budenovsky Prospect. The opening of the facility falls on the end of August 2016. The sculpture depicts Khanzhonkov standing next to an old camera. It is cast in bronze and is over 2.5 meters high. Monument to V.I.Lenin
In Soviet times, several monuments were erected to the great leader in Rostov-on-Don.Two objects have the main value: a monument on Bolshaya Sadovaya Street, at the entrance to Gorky Park, and a monument on Lenin Square. The monument on Bolshaya Sadovaya became the first monument to this historical person in the city. Its discovery dates back to 1929. On the square of the same name, the monument was erected in 1963.
Monument to Peter and Fevronia
The sculpture in the Park of the Revolution depicts the two patron saints of family and marriage. The opening of the monument took place on September 16, 2011. The composition on a granite pedestal depicts the moment of the marriage of the Murom prince Peter with the beekeeper's daughter Fevronia. "Plumber with a cat"
The composition cast from bronze catches the eyes of passers-by with its simplicity and kindness. It decorates the pedestrian sidewalk of Cathedral Lane in the central part of the city. The idea of the author was to create the image of an innocent, inconspicuous worker of the housing and communal services. The hero holds an adjustable wrench with one hand, with the other he strokes the cat on the back of the battery. The plumber's tired, kind-hearted look is also turned to the cat.
"Don father"
The popular memorial in the city is a sculpture of a majestically seated man on a granite pedestal. Its appearance is the embodiment of a combination of aristocracy with the Cossacks, as evidenced by the presence of various thematic attributes. The sculpture itself is cast in bronze and is located on one of the city's embankments, not far from the construction exhibition pavilion.
Monument to A.P. Chekhov
The monument to the famous literary figure is one of the many works of the contemporary sculptor A. Sknarin. On a red granite pedestal of an octagonal shape, a bronze figure of the writer with a book in his hand stood in full growth. The sculpture itself is 2.5 meters high. The name and years of life of the writer are indicated on the tablets. The monument is located at the intersection of Pushkinskaya Street and Chekhov Avenue.
Monument "Oganovtsy"
The memorial object is a sculptural group of five Soviet artillerymen. A cannon is installed on a high rectangular pedestal next to them. The main characters of the composition are Lieutenant Sergei Oganov, commander of the batteries, and Sergei Vavilov, political instructor. The monument was located in the Taganrog Avenue area in the spring of 1983.
"Defenders of the Rostov Sky"
The stele, 75 meters high, was installed in memory of Soviet pilots who fought for their homeland during the Great Patriotic War. The top of the stele is crowned with a mock-up of the MiG-15 military aircraft taking off. A slab with the inscription "Glory to the defenders of the homeland!" Is installed at the base. The memorial object is located on the site of a mass grave, not far from the city airport. The plane taking off rises above the Aviators Park and is clearly visible from Sholokhov Avenue.
Memorial to the Victims of Fascism in Zmievskaya Balka
The object is located in the largest burial place for Holocaust victims in the country. A concrete sculptural composition of impressive size is located right on the ground, without a pedestal, in the very center of the Zmievskaya Balka. On the territory of the memorial object there is an observation deck, as well as a hall of mourning. Gravestones and six-meter concrete pylons are installed along the road leading from the sculptures to the hall.
"To the fallen soldiers"
The complex is located on the Karl Marx square, in the Frunze square. At this place, immediately after the liberation of Rostov-on-Don in 1943, a mass grave was organized. The monument was erected in 1957, after which it was repeatedly rebuilt and restored. Today, the memorial complex includes a semicircular concrete structure, on the front side of which the grieving Motherland is depicted. An eternal flame burns in the center.
Monument to the Chernobyl Liquidators
The monument was erected in memory of people sent to Chernobyl from the Rostov region to eliminate the consequences of the accident. The monument includes three sculptural objects. In the center is a soldier standing on a hemisphere symbolizing the globe with a flame protruding at the site of the disaster. On the left is an atom, in the form of three rotating rings. On the right is a bell on the hands of the Rostov liquidators protruding from the ground.
Monument to the Heroes of the First World War
The monument was erected in memory of the soldiers and officers of the Russian Imperial Army who fought during the First World War. It is a bronze figure of a soldier dressed in a military uniform typical of the early 20th century. "Merchant peddler"
The sculpture, popular among tourists and residents of the city, is a symbol of the rapid development of Rostov-on-Don. The bronze figure of a man in colorful clothes gives passers-by a kind smile. A bronze cat is walking nearby. It is believed that both characters are able to fulfill any desire of the one who will rub the merchant's caftan or pet the cat.
Monument to M. Platov
The memorial depicts the ataman of the Cossack army of the Russian Empire, who participated in hostilities at the beginning of the 19th century. The object is located at the intersection of the central street of the city - Bolshaya Sadovaya, with University lane. A bronze figure in a traditional hussar uniform, standing in full growth next to a horse, on a high pedestal.
"Rostovchanka"
The sculpture symbolizes freedom, relaxedness, love of life, expressed in the image of a true woman. It is this image, according to the author, that best characterizes the inhabitants of the Don capital, in whose glory the monument was created. The sculpture in the form of a graceful female figure is located on Beregovaya Street.
